I was born in the seventies into a family of small businessmen.
My maternal grandfather was the one who awakened my interest in ‘thinking about business’ when I was just a child. I remember going with him to see the orange, tangerine and lemon groves, and on the way in the car he talked to me about the almond factory he had managed a few years ago and about the new citrus business. He always spoke to me with great love but as if I was an adult, reasoning all things with affection.
A few years later, I had the experience of the family business not doing well, and the effects that this entailed, making me realize that the management of a company is a very serious matter, which must be approached with great responsibility, since it has very direct consequences on the well-being of many people.
Those seeds that had been sown in me, which remained in a latent state, began to germinate during my studies in industrial engineering 1, specializing in industrial organization as a result. I remember perfectly the ‘crush’ I felt when I started the classes of one of the subjects taught within that specialty, Strategic Management. Without a doubt, it was ‘love at first sight’.
After finishing my studies I joined the labor market. I have worked for more than twenty years, developing various functions, most of them related to my personal interests in business organization and strategy (coordinator in engineering projects, HR consultant, department head, organizational consultant, knowledge management manager, strategic analyst, etc.). In addition, I have been a partner in the family business for twenty-five years.
Shortly after starting my professional career, my personal interests led me to combine my work with the completion of my doctorate, in order to further deepen my knowledge in the field of business organization and, more specifically, Strategic Management. After many years of study and research, in parallel with my work activity, I managed to finish and present my doctoral thesis, which delves into the strategic process of the company 2. During those years I also published several research articles analyzing the phenomenon of internationalization and the strategy formation process in technology-based firms 3.
Currently, my main objective is to help those people who manage a company (businessmen, managers, middle managers, etc.), or those who are starting or wish to start a business (entrepreneurs), to reach a good understanding of how strategies are formed, so that they are able to define, establish, promote and develop those strategic processes that allow their organizations to respond quickly and adequately to the opportunities and threats that arise in their environments.
This will result in a greater likelihood of success of these business or entrepreneurial activities, and, as a consequence, in greater well-being and happiness for those involved in such activities.
I hope that the various training and consulting programs I have developed, and the book I have published 4, will help us to achieve this goal, and that this website will serve as a meeting point for those people, both professional and academic, who are interested in studying and understanding the processes by which strategies are formed in companies.
